Back to Gothenburg and the endless stream of great indiepop bands. Today I want to check out on a duo called Honeymoon Over! that was active back in the mid 2000s, releasing an EP in 2007. I remember them a little bit from Myspace. But thanks to a post from my friend David Chalé I found out that the band has reissued that EP a few years ago, digitally.
The EP was re-released by Fallible Records from Sweden in 2023. The idea was to make the five songs from the EP available on all streaming platforms. Im not a big fan of these platforms, but I guess there’s nothing we can do about it. Physical records are expected to die (sorry for my pessimism! now!).
The self-titled EP was released originally in 2007. It included the songs “I’m Thru Writing Lovesongs for You”, “Sophistication”, “Järntorget”, “Escapism” and “Let’s Stay Awake”. The music is credited to Fredrik Ståhl and the lyrics as well, with the exception of “Järntorget” where Kalle Lekholm wrote them. Fredrik also mastered and mixed the songs. Also important to say that the original release was just as a download EP. No physical copies.
What else can we say about them? I like the song “Järntorget”. I visited GBG once. I remember this place. Wikipedia describes it like this: Järntorget is a public square in Gothenburg, Sweden. A hub for public transport, it is located west of Haga and is the starting point for the boulevards of Linnégatan to the south and Nya Allén to the east; and the streets of Första Långgatan and Andra Långgatan to the west. Järntorget is the traditional home of the city’s labour movement, with the Social Democratic Party, ABF, Folkteatern, Folkets hus and trade unions located here.
I look for more info about them. I see that Kalle Lekholm is a reporter for the Göteborgs Posten. He also had played French horn on The Knife’s record “Deep Cuts”. Not sure about Fredrik Ståhl though. There are a few people with that name in the Gothenburg area.
Anyhow, this is what I could find about them. Not sure if they ever played live. Maybe they did? Would be great to know. Anyone remembers them?
